Today is a sad day for many small, family-owned businesses across Pennsylvania, including us here at The Scotchmen in Osceola Mills.
For some people, skill games may have just been machines in a local establishment. But for businesses like ours, they meant much more than that.
As a small, family-owned bar that has been part of this community for over 50 years, every bit of additional revenue has helped us keep our prices affordable for our customers, get through the slower days, and continue working hard to keep our doors open.
Running a small business isn't easy. There are good days and bad days, bills that never stop coming, and so much behind the scenes that people don't always see. That extra revenue helped us balance things out and continue providing a place where our community could come together.
And the impact reached much further than many people ever realized.Through the company that provided our skill games, donations were made to numerous nonprofits, charities, and organizations. That support helped make a difference throughout our communities in ways that many may never have known.
With the removal of these games, small businesses are losing a source of revenue that helped them keep going. The effects won't necessarily stop at the doors of the businesses themselves. They can also reach the local organizations, community events, and the people who depend on that support.
We understand that there are laws and decisions that businesses must follow, but we also believe it's important to recognize the real impact these changes have on the little guys — the small businesses that work hard every day to survive, serve their customers, and give back whenever they can.
For us at The Scotchmen, it's never just been about running a bar. It's about family, tradition, memories, and being part of a community that has supported us for generations.
Our hearts go out to every small business across Pennsylvania facing this same uncertainty. We know firsthand how hard it is to keep a small business going, and losing another source of revenue makes that challenge even greater.
Please continue to support your local small businesses. Every visit, every meal, every purchase, and every bit of support truly matters more than you may realize.
From our family at The Scotchmen to yours, thank you for continuing to stand beside us.
