Teriyaki House has proudly served the Chico community for many years and has been open in Oroville for over a year. We are committed to serving our community with integrity, transparency, and respect.
On Saturday, February 7, an individual entered our Oroville location and ordered two Thai teas. Shortly after leaving, he returned and began aggressively yelling at our employees, using foul language, demanding money, and accusing our business of stealing his card information. He claimed our payment system was responsible for unauthorized charges.
For clarity, our point-of-sale system is Clover, a widely used and trusted payment platform within the restaurant industry. At no point does our staff have access to customersā card information.
Due to the individualās aggressive behavior, verbal threats, and demands for money, he stated he would contact law enforcement. We responded that police involvement would be appropriate, as we believed the situation could not be resolved rationally without assistance. The individual then left the premises without contacting police. Out of concern for the safety of our staff, law enforcement was contacted while the incident was occurring.
The individual later returned and apologized, stating he had realized he had misplaced the wallet and had made the accusations in error. We informed him that his behavior toward our staff was unacceptable. We also confirmed that no wallet had been found or turned in by staff or other customers.
Oroville Police Department arrived shortly thereafter, and we fully explained the situation.
Later that day, a second individualāidentified as the walletās ownerāvisited the restaurant and left a phone number. They informed us they were not local and requested to be contacted should the wallet be located. We confirmed that we would reach out if anything was found.
This concludes the entirety of Teriyaki Houseās interaction with these individuals.
Despite this, false accusations have since been posted online alleging theft by our business. These claims are untrue. While we understand the frustration that can come with losing personal property, we will not tolerate the spread of misinformation that harms our employees or our business.
Although we do not have exterior surveillance, we do have interior camera footage. The footage clearly shows the individual leaving the restaurant with the wallet in his possession, holding it in his left hand and placing it into his pocket before exiting.
We appreciate the professionalism of the Oroville Police Department and thank our community for their continued support. Everyone
