Gnocchi alla romana - not your usual gnocchi! 😋

Years ago, this was the first dish I made from scratch by myself. Nonna was so proud 🥹
I’m slowly finding my way back to cooking with foods that make me tear up a little bit but also feel like a warm hug from home.

My last post was a happy one, I was ready and excited to go home and see my family.
Unfortunately, everything changed.
Last week, my grandma left us, and the world doesn’t feel the same anymore.

I still can’t believe that just a month ago we were sitting together, watching TV and commenting on the new recipes. She even made me some polpettone to take home — she wasn’t too happy with that new version, but to me it was perfect, pure love on a plate.
Before I left, she gave me her pasta cutter, telling me to take care of it because it’s over 100 years old.

Some friends have asked about my pasta, but I don’t know when I’ll be ready to get back to it.
Right now, the thought of cooking something without calling her to tell her what I made, or without being able to ask for her advice, just hurts too much.

I know I’ll return to it one day, I don’t want to lose the passion we shared.
I made her a promise: that pasta cutter will keep on working for another 100 years.
But for now, I just miss my Nonna Sandra too much. 🤍
