Sometimes the most important ingredient is having a trusted adult in your corner.

According to MENTOR, 85% of young people with a mentor say that relationship helped them with school and their education.

A nurturing after-school environment gives children consistent opportunities to be seen, encouraged, and reminded that mistakes are part of learning.

Whether we’re mixing apple-cinnamon dough or working through a difficult task, we want every child to hear:

A recipe gives children instructions. A creative after-school program gives them opportunities.

Every Give a Chip workshop encourages students to measure, make decisions, ask questions, recover from mistakes, and work toward a shared goal.

Along the way, they’re developing:

• teamwork
• problem-solving
• communication
• responsibility
• resilience
• confidence

This fall, our students aren’t simply making pumpkin-spice treats. They’re learning that they are capable of creating something wonderful.

Research summarized by CASEL found that students participating in social-emotional learning programs gained an average of 11 percentile points in academic achievement.

In our workshops, SEL happens naturally as students:

🍎 Practice patience and perseverance
🥣 communicate with teammates
🍪 solve problems together
🎃 build confidence through creativity
❤️ experience encouragement from caring adults
