Starting Wednesday, June 10, Lee's Famous Recipe Chicken will serve breakfast and lunch, closing at 2:00 pm daily. Catering orders will continue to be solicited, prepared and delivered as before. I have determined that the time has come when I should reduce the stress and needs of a fast paced business, with my age (87) and a couple of medical issues being the determining factors. While the reduced hours will help, it is clear that our 43 year old restaurant will be closing for good in the next month or so. The Lee's operation is Scott County's oldest national or regional chain restaurant operating in the county. We continue to have high traffic and sales, making this a very difficult decision. We want to end our 43 year run on our own terms, at a high point, and with only good thoughts and memories for our guests.
The restaurant began in 1983 as Mrs. Winners Chicken and Biscuits, then 17 years later the ownership in Oneida felt the need to change the concept to the Lees's group, mostly due to Lee's better visibility and presence in nearby Kentucky. At that time one company owned both concepts making the transition an easy one. Lee's has been a great company to work with, going far beyond what was necessary and expected. Their leadership, direction and assistance along with an outstanding relationship has solidified any success we have achieved. Our manager, Louise Phillips, has been the heartbeat of the business for years, and will continue throughout this process. Hopefully there will be a minimum of confusion during the next few weeks.
We have had hundreds of the local population pass through our doors as workers, and are happy to have aided with their transition to adulthood and hopefully contributed to others in raising their families. The thousands of Scott County and Kentucky residents who have literally carried us on their backs throughout the 43 year span should be recognized and thanked for their support as well.
