Soul Cafe has a surprise guest serenading us today for Sunday lunch!

We're grateful and excited to welcome Elele Tiana,

"Growing up in a multi-generational musical family, as a five year old I began with the piano, guitar and bass. My favorite part was singing harmonies with my cousins. My styles range from Island & Roots Reggae to Soulful Singer Songwriter & Conscious progressive lyrics.

Sometimes I play just acoustic ukulele and sing. Other times I do a looper set where I live loope Ukulele, Bass, harmonies and beat boxing to create a full band feel. I play mostly original dancable Reggae songs with hip hop flare, but also known to drop some covers and traditional Hawaiian o'lelo song or cover a Marley!"

Come and enjoy her Soulful offering between 1-3 today. 🙏

Happening TONIGHT @ Soul Cafe : Uncle Bonsai - CD Release Concert ~ folk pop, funny, edgy
Soul Cafe Serving Dinner & Drinks
$28 / $18 for students & those w/low incomes

In August 1981, when three Seattle newcomers came together and learned a few songs to busk at the Bumbershoot gates — they made just enough to get into the festival — no one had any idea that they’d be still going strong 45 years later. Uncle Bonsai returns to Olympia with a brand new member, the amazing Kat Bula, and whole bunch of new songs! (Don't worry, you'll still hear some of your favorites!) And what can you expect? Well, it's still an Uncle Bonsai show! You'll hear songs from their 10 recordings, a lot of new songs, and selections from their "Seven Sins, Seven Wonders, Seven Dwarfs" song-cycle.

And just what IS Uncle Bonsai? Imagine what might happen if Tim Burton and Edward Gorey hijacked the Andrews Sisters en route to a Stephen Sondheim festival with The Beatles and Tom Lehrer in the sidecar; you'd get Seattle super-harmonizers Uncle Bonsai. With just three voices and an acoustic guitar, Bonsai presents an often dizzying vocal array of intricate harmony. Their songs, dark and hilarious at times, just as often delight with moments of great insight and beauty. The trio aligns itself with the under-achiever, the dejected, the outsider, the black sheep. Densely-packed lyrics fly by in a whir at times, and take a skewed stance on topics such as first-world problems, the creation of the universe, the afterlife, and, of course, holidays with the family. Uncle Bonsai's acoustic folk-pop songs are almost one-act plays or short stories, resisting strict pop, folk, or singer-songwriter categories. Their songs focus on the passing of time, the passing of genes, and the passing of pets - the truth of everything seemingly buried somewhere under the family tree.

“A folk-pop trio from Seattle, Uncle Bonsai performs funny original songs whose exquisite musical detail and subtle needling wit attain a level of craft not often seen in pop” - NY Times

Happening TONIGHT @ Soul Cafe : The Climate Catalyst Speaker Series

When: Tuesday, February 24 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM, Free
We all want the same thing: a livable, sustainable future. The path forward lies in collaboration, not division.

Northwest author, Jenny Morgan, will lead us through a lively and interactive workshop based off her book: Cancel Culture in Climate. Together we can transform climate action by fostering authentic, meaningful sustainability strategies that drive real environmental progress. Participants will leave with actionable insights to create lasting climate solutions while avoiding shame tactics and greenwashing, and while maintaining public trust.

Jenny Morgan is a climate strategist, speaker, and advocate for sustainable change. As a public speaker, Jenny has engaged thousands of individuals, inspiring practical climate action and shared accountability. In her debut book, Cancel Culture in Climate, she explores how unity, progress over perfection, and constructive dialogue can accelerate meaningful climate solutions. She will have books to purchase the evening of the workshop.

Event is free but donations will be accepted.

Snacks will be provided. Please bring your own nonalcoholic beverage.

Event begins at 6. For more info or to reserve a spot for the workshop:
