The Essex, a fine dining restaurant by Chef C**t Taylor, has moved to Old Saybrook, CT. Originally opened in 2017 in Centerbrook, the restaurant will reopen in its new location late Fall 2021. Set in the heart of downtown, across from the Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center, the “new” Essex will continue to offer the progressive, modern, approachable cuisine that has made it a top restaurant in the region. Whether it’s a pre-theater dinner, a casual gathering with friends, or a tasting menu for a special evening, guests can gather at The Essex to create memories with family and friends while enjoying excellent cuisine. The new space will feature an open kitchen and seating for 42 indoors, with an additional 20 seats in an outdoor patio, all in a comfortable and refined setting. The Essex menu will showcase modern American cuisine that draws inspiration from the land, sea and deep heritage of the Connecticut River Valley, using the freshest locally sourced products available from farm and sea. All will inspire an ever-changing menu of progressive interpretations of timeless dishes. The restaurant’s Wine Spectator award winning wine list, curated by wine director Katey Taylor, features more than 100 bottles, and guests can enjoy unique, classic craft cocktails at the bar. As new parents of twins and residents of Old Saybrook, Chef Taylor and his wife Katey are excited about their family endeavor, bringing The Essex to its new home, amidst a thriving community in a walkable downtown setting. Chef Taylor will push the boundaries of “new” New England cooking with dishes that reflect the influence of global cuisines, while being mindful of the region’s history. At The Essex, guests will have the opportunity to discover new, exciting flavors at one of Connecticut’s finest culinary destinations.
