The skies are blue. We're all doing ok. We hope now that the storm has passed no one feels the need to tease those who were worried, or say it was nothing. There are people currently dealing with flooded homes and land, trees through roofs and branches on cars, fences down and animals out, areas without power.

But, more importantly, it needs to be acknowledged that it's difficult for people to heal from emotional damage even a couple of years after Helene. To belittle people for being scared of even a small storm after losing so much and experiencing so much is like laughing at a soldier who jumps at a loud noise after being deployed. Or flinching from something after years of physical abuse. Your experience and how you react to things isn't the same as the next person's. PTSD from a traumatic thing like Helene affects people differently and manifests in different ways. It was sad to see people tell others to "shut up" or "get over it" yesterday and the day before as people prepped.

I hope today those who might have blown off worried community members can equate it to something that helps them understand that emotional trauma is real and it's not their place to discount someone's fear. And if you saw someone do that, speak up and tell them that they are wrong. People won't start being nice to each other again unless we hold them accountable for being jerks.

We hope everyone is safe this morning. There are still rising waters as the hills shed their rainfall. And we will be open tomorrow, Monday, after we take care of our own storm damage.
