Before Christmas dinner, Polish families break a thin white wafer and hand pieces of it to each other.

It is called oplatek. It looks exactly like a communion wafer, because it is made the same way, from flour and water pressed in an iron.

Everyone at the table takes their own piece. Then each person goes round every other person, one at a time, breaks off a corner of theirs, and wishes them something for the year. It can take a long while at a big table, and it is usually where somebody cries.

Families with relatives abroad used to post a wafer inside a Christmas card so that the person far away could still take part.

In Polish American families this is often the very last thing left of the old country, still done every December by people who speak no Polish at all.

Monday is always a great day when there is a Bills win🦬💙❤️
We named our newest Artisan pierogi after our favorite quarterback . Our "7teen" pierogi Is a MUST TRY ! It was created around the fact that Josh is a fan of chicken wings and cherry Pepsi. Our 7teen pierogi is fresh made dough stuffed with chicken breast, a cherry Pepsi reduction , a touch of jalapeno and ginger. The drive to Olcott is definitely worth it . We also have our Josh pierogi . Chicken, hot peppers , cheese , sweet cherry tomatoes ( hot sweet and awesome just like the namesake ) Order for Sundays game ( your friends and family will Thank You ) 716-638-4104

It is hard to believe that October is right around the corner. October is known for German food.( Oktoberfest) That is an easy one for me because my mom worked for a German restaurant for years.(Scharfs near Schiller park in Buffalo) what is your favorite German meal ?

Who doesn't love an awesome sloppy Joe? ( well, to be fair, I'm sure some people don't like sloppy Joe's.) Friday ( and the weekend, if there are any left)  we will have these incredible sloppy Joe grilled cheese on croissant bread. The sloppy Joe is made from scratch, it's chipotle and brown sugar and the bread is incredible. It'll be served with hand cut fries . Check back in for our Other Friday evening and weekend specials.
