Facebook tells me I've had over 100 new looks at Sunny's page and maybe I should post something. Hello, sorry Sunny's is no longer in business! I know, I'm pretty put out that there's still no coffee shops in the area. Anyone know of one in the works?

I gotta say, only being in business three months has made doing my own business taxes pretty simple.

I'm also happy the sign is still intact. I see it every day on my school run, and it only gives me positive feelings. I'm so grateful I had the opportunity to cover up the hideous Custino's mural as well. That is what I'd like to be remembered for, ultimately.

Update with the shut-down:

A little steamed here. I just listened to a voicemail from landlord who reiterated that she heard my business wasn't doing very well, therefore they will be keeping my security deposit. She said I was using the "not safe" line to get out of my lease.

Oh, and she is retiring at the end of the week and going away, so I won't be able to get a hold of her ever again.

I'm having a sale tomorrow, Saturday July 19th, from 7am-2pm at 6221 Smith Blvd.

A LOT of things from the coffee shop will be for sale, including everyone's favorite green, full body lounge chair.

Last weekend, everything was moved out in two days including: seven ceiling fans, ten light fixtures, three sinks, fridge, ice machine, a bunch a chairs and tabley items, hutch, sideboard and desk. It all went to my house.

I knew this fridge would not fit (in the u-haul or my garage), so we pushed it out front and inscribed it "free."

A guy came along with his truck looking like this. He asked if it was free, and I said yes, and he smiled. I smiled and drove off. After all that moving, I didn't have the energy to watch him load it, even though I was curious to see how he'd manage!

Out of the building. Waiting for Official Surrender Agreement to be officially signed. I am waiting for them to give me a re-write, since my lawyer told me their initial document was pretty skewed their way.

I probably won't sue the landlord because, after this episode, I realize I would rather live with inner peace than potentially spend a bunch of weeks and money to continue interacting with these rather callous and remote people (and their lawyers who are always cc'd). Blegh.

To the few customers who offered to help me move: I would love your it. If you want a take a carload from Sunny's to my house, I would be very grateful.

As of yesterday, I'm officially closed. I was told by the city's head of inspection that my structural engineer's report would be the most qualified assessment of the matter. Therefore, I had to self-condemn.

But I made an outside-the-door coffee sale today to a very grateful lady, and that inspired me.

If you're in relatively close to Sunny's and want an iced coffee this afternoon, shoot me a text by 1pm. Actually, I'll make whatever you want, if I have it.

Hi friends!

Today, I had a structural engineer up in the attic. The conclusion he came to about Sunny's building wasn't good. He concluded that the building should be condemned, because of widespread failure of the truss system.

Tomorrow, if you find I am closed it's because I have taken his report to the city office for filing. I hope they do condemn it immediately, because the sooner that happens, the sooner we can get some action!

As I have told many people, the landlords of this building are in New York. They don't want to put any money into this building. In fact, they had just decided to put it on the market, right before I signed the contract with them. It seems like they have had it with owning this property, and I think they should be relieved of it!

If anyone is interested in talking with me about A) business lawyers you recommend, or B) the prospect of getting together funds to buy this building, then please get in touch! I am very interested!

I don't know real estate, but with the trusses failing and all... this might be an opportunity for the Village to scoop up this property for local ownership (and, hopefully, put and end to the cycle of failed businesses and neglect).
