Severe Weather Update: Significant severe weather is on tap today mainly from I-35 and west. Very large hail, damaging winds and tornadoes all possible. Storms will develop anytime after 4pm from the OK/TX panhandles to SW Oklahoma. The storms will move east and move more into a line lowering the tornado threat but very high wind threat and still some large hail. Cloud bases will be a little high which should limit the tornado threat to some degree. Especially further south. Storms will move toward the I-35 corridor 7-9pm. I recommend getting home before the line passes through, expect damaging winds. Stay weather aware today!

Severe Weather Update: It is middle May, and we are in peak of tornado season. Unfortunately significant severe weather is possible today including tornadoes. Storms should form around 5pm and after in a rough line from Lawton to Alva. Very large hail and tornadoes are possible. OKC metro will be under the gun from 6pm on. Stay weather aware!

Severe Weather update: SPC has issued a enhanced risk for southern Oklahoma. Main threats will be damaging winds and very large hail. Storms will have tons of instability to work off of. Some models try to bring storms to the south side of the OKC. Any time after 5pm storms could fire. Tornadoe chances is not zero, but it is May, it’s not zero. There may be some supercells initially before it all turns into a squall line. Stay weather aware.

Severe Weather update: Models have had a rough time handling the last couple days with convection. With all the storms so far this morning it should lower the chances for severe weather around OKC, but not zero. All depends on how much it clears out this afternoon. The best chances will be southwest OK. Altus to Lawton and along the Red River have the best chance for hail and tornadoes. This is a very fluid setup. Its changed a good bit in 12 hours. Just remember to stay weather aware!

Good morning. I will start to post more often as I am now a full time resident of Oklahoma. We are moving into peak severe weather season. The next risk of notice will be Thursday across the western half of Oklahoma. Still very early. That 48hr window usually is when the models get better with details. Wednesday storms are possible of western OK, but should mostly be under severe limits.

Upgrade to a moderate risk into OKC. Venally along I-40 and south like i have discussed. Data suggest storms should start to fire in south OK at anytime. The dry line storms in the Texas panhandle should fire and move into SW OK this evening. Radar watching for now. I’ll update when storms get going.

SEVERE WEATHER UPDATE: SPC has upgraded to a moderate risk for SW OK. We have two areas to watch for storm development this afternoon. First area is SW or south central OK. If discrete supercells can form, storms will pose a tornado threat late afternoon and early evening. These storms would move NE and they could affect the OKC metro area. As long as the warm front gets to the metro there will be the threat for tornadoes, these storms are not a guarantee. Models vary on solutions. At the same time supercells will be going up on the dry line in the Texas panhandle along the triple point. These will track east and moving into SW OK this evening. This is the reason for the moderate risk. These storms will be capable of producing strong tornadoes and giant hail. They will eventually transition to a squall line as the push east and this will affect OKC with damaging winds and still possible tornadoes and hail. Todays risk of severe weather is still dependent how far north the warm front pushes. It's moving through southern OK now. Generally it looks like it sets up along I-40, so the tornado threat would be along I-40 and south. North of the front severe storms will still be possible just not the tornado threat. Another topic to touch on is flash flooding. Moderate flash flood threat for a good portion of the state including OKC and Tulsa. With multiple rounds of storms. Seen models spit out 4-5" pockets of rain. So overall very active day. Will be a good day to stay weather aware. Basically anytime after 3pm there is the threat for severe weather. With not much of cap some storms could even go earlier. Stay safe and I'll have more updates later.

Severe Weather Update: Potential is there for significant severe weather tomorrow. It is a very tricky forecast and will be dependent on the location of the boundary across the state. Will it be near the red river or along the I-40 corridor. Models vary, and we won’t know the exact placement of it probably until afternoon. So best way to explain the setup is if you are below the boundary you will have richer moisture and instability which will allow supercells to produce large hail and tornadoes. If you are above the front hail and flooding will be the main threats. Storms will start to fire early tomorrow morning. Some of these could be severe with some hail, if things can clear out a little in early afternoon the warm front will move north and put the southern half of the state In the risk for significant severe weather. Now if storms keep forming, no clearing that will keep the front down near the red river and most of Oklahoma will not have to deal with the threat of tornadoes. Won’t be much of a cap so expect numerous storms. I’ll will be updating tomorrow tracking the front and will be able to figure out where how far north the front will set up. Flash flooding will be a big threat as well. Models producing big rain fall totals. So expect flooding. No need to panic just be prepared for active day tomorrow. I will keep you updated!

SEVERE WEATHER UPDATE: Significant severe weather possible today. Supercells are expected for this over the next hour or so in NW OK and will push off to the east. Initially these storms may just be hail producers but as the afternoon and evening goes on tornado threat increases. How far down the dry line supercells form is a little uncertain as we head into the early evening. Best chance for strong tornadoes will be northern OK. But any discrete supercell will be in an environment to produce tornadoes. At some point the cold front will under cut the storms this evening and they will transition to a squall line to a damaging wind threat and QLCS tornado threat, usually much weaker tornadoes. So the big takeaway today will be any discrete supercell that forms could produce tornadoes. At this point thats northern OK. So stay weather aware this afternoon. Where ever you get or watch your tornado coverage you should have that handy to get warnings. Stay safe everyone!
