I am thankful for their commitment to caring for our community. Their dedication and skill are making a difference.
While speaking to a very dear friend of mine who happens to be one of our local heroes,
She was telling me about the long night of search and rescue on Big Frog Mountain.
“We recently rescued two lost hikers and a few weeks before that we rescued an injured mountain biker.
So much happening here.
It’s like the Wild West! “
They are among the first to arrive on the scene.
Between everyone thinking River Road is the Indy 500, overambitious tourists wanting to explore the mountains, and major catastrophes, they are there. Ready to take on whatever challenges they face, volunteering!
It was brought to my attention that there is a need for our donations to help with equipment.
Unlike other organizations, they mostly depend on donations.
I asked exactly what would donations go towards?
“We have three fire trucks right now that are having issues. Reliability is very important and we need to be able to hop in the trucks and go as fast as we can. Additional swift water rescue equipment would enable us to respond faster to Swiftwater emergencies. Some of our turnout gear needs to be retired and replacing it is a priority to keep the firefighters safe. “
I was also informed that they are working on trying to get several different grants.
I don’t know about you but I would want the best for these people if ever it were my family or myself in need of their help.
You see, these people are just people.
Some are single moms going to school full time, nurse at night, yet still making time to give their time voluntarily at our local fire hall. Others are full-time doctors, even a preacher.
They give themselves and at the very least we can give them ,not only our gratitude but ,$5.00!
What does $5.00 do, you may wonder?
If we all gave at least this by the end of the day they will be one step closer to fixing their fire trucks and having Swiftwater equipment.
