In Loving Memory of Giuseppe “Pino” Bottalico
It’s with a heavy heart, we bring the sad news that our beloved Pino passed away this Sunday, at home with his family.
Giuseppe “Pino” Bottalico, born on June 16, 1955, in Puglia, Italy, was a man whose journey was defined by passion, generosity, and a love for bringing people together through the art of food. At the age of 30, Pino left Italy and ventured across the Atlantic to Florida, where he began his career at Alfredo’s in the Italian Pavilion at Disney’s Epcot in Orlando.
After a successful start in America, Pino’s dream soon led him west, where Pino and Sylvia purchased Tomaso’s Ristorante which later renamed to Pino’s Cucina Italiana in Encinitas’ iconic Lumberyard. In 2017, he acquired Veneto’s Cucina Italiana on Coast Highway, Oceanside transforming it into another vibrant gathering place. Both restaurants became cherished landmarks, offering classic Italian dishes inspired by the rich culinary traditions of his homeland.
More than a restaurateur, Pino was a cornerstone of the community. His warmth and hospitality were felt not only in the welcoming atmosphere of his dining rooms but also in his unwavering support for local schools, charitable organizations, and military families during the holidays. Whether through a plate of handmade pasta or a heartfelt gesture, Pino brought people together to share in the joys of life—dining, laughing, and celebrating love.
Pino’s legacy is one of selfless generosity and boundless kindness. He opened his doors, his heart, and his life to North San Diego County, creating lasting memories for thousands of friends, neighbors, and patrons who were blessed to know him.
Pino is survived by his loving wife Sylvia, his devoted son Brandon, his cherished family in Italy, including three siblings, Enza, Sebastiano, and Anna, and a community that will forever remember the light he brought into their lives.
Pino passed away peacefully at home on January 5th, surrounded by Sylvia, Brandon, Jasimine and good friend, Jim. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit lives on in every meal shared and every memory made in his presence.
May he rest in eternal peace.
