Hey Friends, it’s deli check in time. We’re heading into our 6 month anniversary weekend soon. Crazy right?!?
How it’s going: Of course opening a food business like any small business has many challenges. So far we’ve dealt with staffing issues, electrical issues, a leak in our ceiling, a broken freezer and the heat has been unbearable at times.

Luckily these issues didn’t all happen at once and we are so luckily to have an amazing support system of friends & family who are always there to help. I truly have never felt more supported in anything I’ve ever done in my entire life and no matter what happens in the future this already feels like a win.

Now the better stuff: We have amazing friends who were there to help us in the deli until we were able to find a permanent team. Thanks so much A Couple Without Borders . We’ve found a small but amazing team and I couldn’t be happier with the people I get to spend my days with. We have partnered with Crossroads Farm Malverne LI NY for the best, freshest local produce and I LOVE creating dishes with the farm produce so much! We’ve been expanding our dessert offerings with the help of our talented team so if you haven’t been in a while def check out the pastry case. Also there’s soft serve ice cream now.

We’ve opened our space to the community and it’s just the beginning of what we have planned. So far we’ve hosted a few fundraisers, a coffee popup (thanks coffee by Ellie 💗✨ ) an art hang with Go Figure Art Hang and will be hosting Monarch Recovery Project NYC for a butterfly release on 8/29.

In the six months we’ve been open we’ve been written up in the Long Island Herald & VegNews and we were even nominated for a VegNews restaurant award for best new vegan restaurant in the country! How wild is that?!? We also received and award from the Vegan Chef Challenge - Northeast for scratch made excellence.

It’s been a really exciting 6 months so far & we will be open on Monday 9/7 (Labor Day) for a 6 month celebration. We will be supporting Humane Long Island We will also have $6 classic corn dogs !!Overall I couldn’t be happier about how it’s going and we are beyond grateful for all of you & your continued support!! 💕🌱

Hey Friends, we see we’ve gotten a bunch of new ppl here lately so just wanted to take a minute to reintroduce myself 👩‍🍳 Im Chef Tiffany you can call me Chef Tiff but please not Tiffy ! I’ll keep it short. I’m the owner and chef of SVK. I’ve been a Chef for a long time, I have a background in clinical nutrition and a culinary degree. Late 2020 like many ppl my husband and I were both out of work bc of Covid & I started working on vegan meat recipes and we decided to sign up for some events and markets. We had almost no money so we started very small, borrowed some $ and bought a few things. Every time we did an event and made some $ we put it back into the business. We eventually moved into a commissary kitchen and operated as a popup working out of breweries all over NYC and Long Island. We vended at vegfests in NJ & PA and started wholesaling some of our vegan meats to other restaurants and markets. We finally were able to open a brick and mortar in March 🤯 after doing popups and events for 5 years!! I have so much to say about this journey but I also get so overwhelmed thinking about it and thinking about all the ppl that actually read these posts now. Thank you for being here. Thank you for wanting to eat cruelty free food, even if it’s only sometimes. It matters. Thank you for believing in us even when we didn’t. We have now been nominated for best new vegan restaurant in the nation 🥳🥳 in the VegNews restaurant awards. There’s some really amazing competition in every category, and im beyond proud to have made the list, it’s a win already. It would be really cool if we did win though so if you can please take few minutes to vote for us. Hey Friends !! Official 4 month deli check in. Crazy that it’s been 4 months, feels like 4 days but also 4 years. First of all, a huge thank you to everyone who has been coming out and showing support. You have been really keeping us busy and we love it! We are so happy we chose Oceanside as the permanent home for SVK. Not only are we down the road from where I grew up and my mom who still lives there but we love the warm welcome and support we’ve received so far !! Considering we basically had our home base Barrier Brewing Co for so long it really made the most sense. Anyway it’s been 4 months of new food and old favorites, new faces and familiar ones, lots of highs and a few lows (broken slicer mid service was a rough one) but overall we are so grateful for the enthusiasm we feel ! We definitely still have many kinks to work out, and probably always will. Some of you may know this but fun fact we started this business with almost zero $. We borrowed a few hundred dollars and were gifted a few more from family and built it little by little and now we’re here still building little by little. Our goal was to show ppl how easy it can be to eat good without eating animals. Over the years our menu has evolved, but our goal has stayed the same. Great food, made cruelty free. Some updates : we’ve tweaked our hours a bit, new hours Thur-Sat 11-8 Sunday 11-6 last deli order 30 min before closing.
Soft serve machine is on the way! Hopefully we’ll have it and get it up and running by next week. We’ve been baking up a storm with the help of our small but mighty team!! And the incredibly talented delights_bydana so keep an eye on that pastry case!! We’ve been making lots of 3 ft hero’s, and we’re always honored to be part of your celebrations. We will have a fun breakfast special this weekend Sat & Sun, a pancake breakfast sandwich. We tried it the other day and it’s BIG!! But so good. Jelly donuts will be available as long as we can keep them in stock . Planning to make about 2 dozen a day. We will have the artichoke cake special this week too! I’m sure there’s more I wanted to say but it’s super hot in the kitchen and the vegan cold cuts aren’t going to make themselves. We are proud of what we’ve built so far and excited to see where this takes us. Thank you so much for being here 🌱💕
