Fisherman Spotlight: Eugene Foster
Ocean Isle Beach has evolved over the last couple decades, but for the past 21 years, one thing has remained constant: Eugene fishing on the OIB Pier.
Eugene has fished the Carolina coast since 1948. After 30 years fishing the Outer Banks, he found a home at the Ocean Isle Beach Pier. Since 2005, this pier has been blessed to have him dropping lines, sharing stories, and passing along wisdom to generations of fishermen.
If you’ve spent enough time out here, chances are you’ve had something to learn from this gentleman. In one way or another, we all benefit from his experience and friendship. We’re grateful to have him — or maybe more accurately, grateful that he has us, considering he’s been here longer than many of us have. 😆
We’re also pretty sure Eugene is the reason North Carolina no longer allows flounder fishing… because at the rate he catches them, they’d probably be an endangered species!
Thank you, Eugene. It’s always a pleasure when you and your lovely wife stop by the Pier House.
Keep an eye out for our Fisherman Spotlight Series — these familiar faces will also be contributing to a live fishing report available anytime on our new website:
