Tonight at 6:30 on the 2nd floor of the Boro Hall is the June Caucus Meeting. Reading these agendas might look a little like Latin if you're not used to it, so I'll attempt to explain, for transparency, some of the items that come to my attention:
a. Ordinance 05-26-Amending Chapter 125: Discussion of the amending the sign ordinance prior to the Second Reading at next week's council meeting on June 9th. The amendments propose prohibiting plants (especially hanging plants, per a comment I was told in-person), shelving, merchandise, and more covering more than 25% of any window based on safety concerns of any storefront. Take a walk along any popular downtown and tell me that a good storefront display has no impact on the overall appearance of a community. If we want our local businesses to thrive, we need to make decisions that will help them.
b. Resolution-2026 NEEF Veteran's & Nature Grant Application: This is regarding the grant for outdoor space that my last video discusses. It is an opportunity to be awarded $10,000 to apply to outdoor space on public lands = trees!! If you or anyone you know is a veteran, please reach out to me ASAP! The application deadline is June 10th so we'd love to hear from our community and work together on the application.
k. Resolution-Chapter 159, Clean Communities Grant: This grant is awarded annually to municipalities throughout the state. It is a fund collected from businesses (that produce litter) meant to go back into communities to support with litter and trash abatement. Most of the funding goes to DPW, but we have also been able to use some of it to purchase the materials we utilize for our frequent litter cleanups, like grabbers, safety vests, and snacks. I'm not sure what the amount awarded is up to at this point, but it has usually been around $100k. (****Please note, I haven't had a chance yet to read the specifics of the grant this year, so it is always possible there have been amendments, but I think it is still worth explaining the gist. I will read it soon and share any chances, if worth discussing.)
l. Resolution-Chapter 159, Caren Kaufman Memorial Grant - This is a $1,000 grant that our amazing Oaklyn Shade Tree Committee volunteers applied for. This grant was awarded and will be used to plant four trees at our Veteran's Pocket Park in observance of America's 250th birthday this year.
