Honoring a Beloved Community Elder

This Saturday we will be hosting a memorial gathering for a beloved community elder whose family has long been part of the Café Colucci community. We are honored to offer our space for family and friends to come together and celebrate his life.

During this time we will be closed for lunch service, but we will remain open for takeout and delivery.

Regular dine-in service will resume at 5pm on Saturday evening.

Thank you for your understanding as we hold space for this moment of remembrance.

The Erta Ale - named after a shield volcano in Ethiopia’s Afar region, nods to the spicy and smokey qualities of the drink. This limited-time coffee-forward cocktail blends mezcal,  Berbere Cocoa with Korerima, the cool minty-smokey black cardamom with Mr. Espresso’s signature oakwood roasted espresso Organic Ethiopia Shantewene to deliver the bright fruity notes so characteristic of the incredible natural processed coffees from this region of Ethiopia .

If you want to come in and nerd out with Gabriel about traditionally processed spices and coffees from across Ethiopia. He’ll be shaking up this limited run espresso martini through the end of the month.

So proud to serve not just our community, but also to support the power of food to transform lives.

I’m honored to sit on the board of , a Bay Area non-profit dedicated to building local food equity and economic opportunity. On September 9, they’re hosting the Third Annual Family Meal—a family-style dinner event where graduates of the Culinary Employment Pathways Program cook our community’s next meal.

This program offers paid training to individuals overcoming barriers to employment, paying $21/hour, and includes access to microgrants up to $800 for emergency needs like housing or medical bills. Since launching in 2020, they’ve supported nearly 115 participants, paid over $300,000 in wages, and awarded 24 microgrants. 

Join me in celebrating their impact:
• When: Tuesday, Sept 9, doors at 5:30 PM, dinner at 6:00 PM
• Where: Understory Oakland (3340 International Blvd)

Tonight we’re proud to be catering for the GIVE FOR VIV benefit concert at — all in support of beloved Bay Area artist Viveca Hawkins, who is on her healing journey after a severe stroke earlier this year.

The night will be MC’d by Rafael Casal and features an incredible lineup of musicians, DJs, and the artistic community rallying around Viveca. There’s a silent auction and livestream too — 100% of proceeds go directly to Viveca’s care.
