Brotzeit Lokal is a Bavarian-inspired restaurant and biergarten with a distinctively Oakland flare. We're located on the Oakland waterfront and feature locally-sourced, house-made menu items alongside a unique draft and bottled beer selection. Brotzeit Lokal was created and built by wife & husband team Krista and Tony Granieri. Brotzeit Lokal was inspired by the couple's love for the inviting, relaxing and family friendly atmospheres of the beergardens in Germany. We took over the old "Oyster Reef" building in October of 2012. While it had certainly had it's hay-day, it had been a run-down night club in a dilapidated building for several years. It had become a haven for prostitution and drug dealing and was a source of blight and crime in the neighborhood. The previous owners had been evicted, so they stripped and trashed the place. At one point it had even been slated for demolition by The Port of Oakland. We leased the building, quit our jobs and spent 6 months full time working on building our restaurant. We are proud to be a true, Oakland local family business. Built from scratch with our life savings, our own "elbow grease" and with the help of all of our closest friends and family members. We extend the warmest "thank you" to everyone who worked way too hard for way too little in order to make our dream into a place that we can share with our neighbors, friends and families. An especially warm thanks to Robert Legere, who worked harder than anyone and never asked for anything (but cold beer) in return. Cheers!

"Meine Hopfenweisse" The incomparable experience of indulgent drinking, that exceeds all expectations … hoppy, but flowery, bitter and full-bodied, and still with a sweet malty aroma - this is how multifaceted wheat b**r can actually be. A real delight in the special Schneider way! And when it comes to spicy dishes or refined chocolates the "Hopfenweisse" unleashes no less than a pleasant tremor of the senses.

Yesterday, August 5th an arrest was made for the near total destruction/vandalism of Celebrated Oakland artist Jon Abduljammi (1941-2017) art installation on the Bay Trail right next to Brotzeit.

Among the Abduljammi pieces destroyed was "Guardian Eagle", "Afro Princess" & "Bay Area Buddha" (see photos). Also heavily damaged in the vandalism was a 1958 Filbrick wooden boat which was part of the installation. Filbrick boats were produced just blocks away from the installation until the 1980's

The Artwork was purchased from Abduljammi and donated to the SF Bay trail by Brotzeit Lokal in 2013 , we hope to work with BCDC & local artists to rebuild the installation and bring Oakland Art back to the Bay Trail.
