4TH WAVE COFFEE? ☕️🌼

I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately.

For a long time, specialty coffee felt like it had to be serious to be respected. Ridgid and serious.

Precise.
Minimal.
Technically perfect.

Not much room for much else.

And that era taught us a lot. Real talk. We learned to care deeply about sourcing, roasting, extraction, and quality. Yes.

But somewhere along the way, coffee got a little too precious to hold all the human stuff.

Culture.
Emotion.
Creativity.
Humor.
Ritual.
Personality.

And without those things, even really good coffee can start to feel kind of flat.

Because coffee was never just coffee. Berlin taught me this in real time.

Cafés have always been places where life happens.
Places to talk, think, flirt, make art, grieve, reconnect, dream, laugh, and sit with yourself for a minute.

Coffee lives inside culture not outside of it.

So maybe what some of us are calling “4th wave coffee” is really just a return to coffee as a ritual that can hold more than the science of it.

Less protocol.
More presence.

Less performance.
More feeling.

What are your thoughts on 4th wave coffee and or the next major shift of the industry?

Hello Mint Motion iced oat latte. ☕

Back when I worked at Philz Coffee, albeit delicious I always felt the mint mojito was missing something.🤔

Turns out the answer was proper espresso, a hint of vanilla, and fresh house oat milk.plus you have to talk sweetly to your mint. Hype it up, It loves that. 💗

Fresh mint. Espresso. Oat milk. A little vanilla.

This is the drink that moves gently inside you.

Café Da Fonk isn’t really trying to compete with specialty coffee in the usual way.

We’re not trying to make coffee feel more intense, trendy, optimized, or “third wave.”

We’re really just trying to make coffee feel more caring.

You still get the caffeine and amazing taste, but hopefully without that rattled, battery-acid feeling afterward.

Just something cool, minty, soft, and alive in the body.

ok quick update—
we had to pause the full cafe for a minute
(boring stuff: equipment + staffing)
BUT…
we’re still feeding you 🤎

cold brew + care based batch lattes start tomorrow
we’re getting sharper with what we do.
less noise, more intention.

Flashback to when we had a full kitchen in SF.
We used to do a lot. Big menu. Tons of options. Full spread. Rice bowls, sandwiches, crepes, pancakes. Vegan, gf, dairy free options
And yeah… people still tell us they miss it.
But losing the kitchen forced something we probably wouldn’t have chosen on our own: focus.
Our drinks got sharper. More intentional. More us.
We’re still evolving. Still building. Still figuring out what this is becoming.
But it’s getting better. Every step. Thank you for your support and understanding we will get there iA
