Say hello to Lio, The Caffè’s Shift Lead! He’s one of the people who keeps the shop up and running, making sure you can get your day started with your favorite drink.

After ✌️ years with the team, you’ll often find Lio drinking an iced Americano and showing off his personality through his sense of style. For him, the best part about being here isn’t just the great coffee or easy BART commute… it’s getting to work with the best customers and team (aw).

And if Lio has taken your order a few times, there’s a good chance you’ve been greeted by a fist bump over the bar!

When he’s not working, you can find Lio dancing under the desert sun with some Kaytranada playing. 🎶

👋 Three months of Endless Summer drinks are winding down, but we’re going out on a high note with The Halva-son!

This sweet and nutty halva-inspired iced coffee, by HNG Executive Chef Jason Halverson, is made with dates and honey, infused with sesame and pistachio, and topped with silky foam and pistachio dust.

Available August 31–September 5, only at The Caffè.

✨ More about Chef Jason Halverson:
Born and raised in Wichita, Kansas, Jason began his culinary career in San Francisco in 2006, working in some of the city’s most revered kitchens. He trained under Roland Passot at La Folie, and, later, played a key role on the team at MICHAEL MINA, helping earn the restaurant two Michelin stars. After becoming Executive Sous Chef at 252 California under Ron Siegel, Jason went on to co-found Hi Neighbor Hospitality Group—bringing creative, thoughtful food to the Bay Area and beyond.

This drink is a must-have to close out summer. It’s the ideal in-between that captures a cooling summer drink with fall flavors! 🍁

🥐 Tarts de Feybesse is back at The Caffè this week! This Thursday and Friday, August 27–28, Chefs Monique and Paul are returning with a surprise pastry made exclusively for us.

You may remember Tarts de Feybesse from their pop-ups with us over the years, where they’ve brought everything from breads to pastries and viennoiserie, including their Kaya Brioche Buns and Blueberry Thyme Jalousie. Now, you can find them at their brick-and-mortar bakery just one mile uptown from The Caffè, and we’re excited to welcome them back for one more Endless Summer treat.

We’re keeping this week’s pastry a surprise for now, but we can tell you it’ll pair perfectly with Rice is Life, our Chef Collab created by Monique herself. 🍚

Quantities will be limited and available first come, first served, so we recommend coming early on both days. See you soon!

🍚 Rice is Life is back all next week! (Did you try it during our anniversary celebration?) Created by Monique Feybesse of Tarts de Feybesse, this Chef Collab is inspired by alok, a Filipino rice drink that’s often enjoyed as a comforting snack or afternoon treat.

For Monique’s take, we combine our Mr. Espresso | Coffee & Machines Neapolitan espresso with creamy rice milk, then finish it with a toasted rice flour foam and a sprinkle of chocolate Rice Krispies for crunch. It’s nutty, creamy and unlike anything else on our menu!

Chef Monique Feybesse is half of the duo behind Tarts de Feybesse in Oakland. After years spent in some of the country’s most celebrated kitchens, she opened her bakery to showcase classically trained French pastry made with exceptional ingredients and technique. Today, Tarts de Feybesse has become one of the Bay Area’s most sought-after bakeries, known for its seasonal pastries and thoughtful approach to baking.

Join us tomorrow, August 21 from 10–11 AM for this month’s Third Friday Tasting, featuring a new coffee coming from Mr. Espresso | Coffee & Machines: Nicaragua Finca El Pastoral Natural! 🇳🇮☕️

Grown by Juan de Dios Castillo at Finca El Pastoral in Jinotega, Nicaragua, this natural-process coffee features notes of caramel, cherry, and strawberry.

Behind the coffee is Juan de Dios Castillo, who founded J&M Family Coffee with his four siblings before starting Finca El Pastoral in Jinotega. It’s also a region that’s especially fresh on our minds: Mr. Espresso VP of Coffee John Di Ruocco recently traveled to Jinotega on an origin trip.

Every month, our Third Friday Tastings are a chance to try something new, ask questions, and spend a little time with coffee before heading into the weekend.

Brandon Talley, Mr. Espresso’s Assistant Director of Coffee Quality, will be brewing and guiding the tasting. Whether you’re already a coffee enthusiast or simply curious to taste something new, we’d love to have you join us.

👀 This week might just be an ube lover’s dream. Along with his Purple Reign Chef Collab drink, Chef Henry is bringing his Whisk Cake Creations 🇵🇭🇺🇸 Ube Chiffon Cake and will be at The Caffe for a book signing of The Ube Baking Book!

Henry’s Ube Chiffon Cake, served in a perfectly portioned cup, has layers of light ube chiffon cake, ube Bavarian cream, and ube whipped cream. It’s finished with toasted coconut, house-made ube halaya, and crisp white chocolate pearls. It’s everything we love about ube, in dessert form.

Then on Wednesday, August 20, from 11am - 1pm, meet “the ube king” in person during a special book signing for his cookbook, The Ube Baking Book. Pick up a copy, have it signed, and enjoy a double dose of ube in the form of Purple Reign and ube chiffon cake.

🍨 A unforgettable taste of Italy is coming to The Caffè! Join us August 21 from 11am-2pm as Patrizia Pasqualetti brings gelato bomboloni to Downtown Oakland.

If you’ve never had one, a gelato bombolone is an Italian-style doughnut stuffed with freshly made gelato. It’s the best of both worlds: warm, pillowy pastry with cold, creamy gelato. A perfect match, really.

As an Italian-inspired café, we’re always excited to share traditions like these with our community, especially when they’re made by someone like Patrizia who is obsessed with quality and has  deep roots in Italian culture.

More about Patrizia: 
Patrizia Pasqualetti is a second-generation gelato chef who learned the craft from her father, Giuseppe, at his gelateria in Orvieto, Italy. Today, Patrizia continues the family tradition here in Northern California, sharing the same recipes, techniques, and passion that began more than 40 years ago. Her gelato is the same served at Eataly.

This is a rare opportunity to experience one of the Bay Area’s finest gelato makers right here in the East Bay. So come on by to get your hands on this singular Italian treat! 🇮🇹

💜 Endless Summer continues with the return of Purple Reign, created by Chef Henry of Whisk Cake Creations 🇵🇭🇺🇸!

Inspired by one of the Philippines’ most iconic ingredients, ube, Purple Reign combines this beloved tuber with bold espresso for a drink that’s rich, creamy, and unlike anything else on our menu. It’s a celebration of a flavor that’s become synonymous with Chef Henry’s baking.

And that’s not all! Next week, we’ll also be serving Henry’s ube chiffon cake. Double the ube! And on Wednesday, August 20 (11am - 1pm), he’ll be at The Caffè signing copies of The Ube Baking Book. Come by, meet Henry, enjoy a slice of cake, and sip a Purple Reign while you’re here.

More about Henry:
Henry Awayan is the baker and owner behind Whisk Cake Creations in Alameda. He discovered his love for baking at just ten years old, went on to study both culinary and pastry arts, and even attended Ice Cream School at Penn State. Before opening Whisk Cake Creations in 2014, Henry spent years working in Bay Area kitchens, building the skills that have made his bakery a local favorite.

His cakes have been featured on Food Network’s Bakers vs. Fakers, local news outlets, and SFGATE, and Whisk Cake Creations was voted Best Bakery in Alameda in 2022. Earlier this year, Henry released The Ube Baking Book, which is now in its second printing and available for purchase at The Caffè.

Fresh Carolina-style biscuits are back at The Caffè! Join us August 13 & 14 as Town Biscuits returns for a two-day pop-up.

What started as an unsatisfied pregnancy craving became Town Biscuits. Founded by an Oakland native and a North Carolina native, the bakery brings handmade Southern-style biscuits to Oakland, inspired by family recipes and a love for authentic Southern cooking.

Made from scratch with quality ingredients, these buttery, flaky biscuits are delivered warm  with a side of house-made cinnamon butter. Pair your biscuit with the Banana Royale, our limited-time Chef Collab with Michele McQueen of lucybluebar. Inspired by Southern-style banana pudding, it’s a food & drink combo that just feels right.
