JUNE 26, 2026 • TRAFFIC NOTICE

On Friday, June 26, at 10:00 AM, the Town's Public Safety departments will be joined by multiple first responder agencies from surrounding communities in a Funeral Procession to honor Chief Public Safety Drone Pilot Shawn Barry.

This procession will begin, and later end, at Generations Church located at 4019 Executive Park Blvd. in Southport.

ROUTE: The Procession will enter onto NC 211 / Southport Supply Road SE and travel WEST, making a “loop” that turns SOUTH onto NC 906 / E.F. Middleton Blvd., then EAST on E Oak Island Drive through the Island portion of Town, and NORTH on NC 133 / Long Beach Rd. The Procession will arrive back on NC 211 at Generations Church, where a Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM.

PLEASE NOTE:
• All traffic will be stopped in these areas as the procession passes through.

• The Oak Island Town Hall will remain OPEN; however, some services may be limited during the hours of 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM, as many staff will be in attendance at the Memorial Service

• Traffic may move slowly while the procession travels through the island portion of Town, expected between 10:15 AM – 10: 45 AM

• Travel along side streets may be slowed, as members of the community use these areas to stand along E Oak Island Drive and show support while the procession passes

Patience and support from all residents and visitors during this Procession are greatly appreciated, as these many agencies come together to properly honor an active first responder for a lifetime of service.
