Wayside Country Inn

Wayside Country Inn Unfortunately The Wayside Country Inn is closed indefinitely due to a fire. The community misses it veey much.

As far as we can uncover, this historic building was built in about 1821 and has been a Tavern, Hotel and Carriage House. We know from many conversations with some local families that this building was moved from the other side of rte 81 sometime in the 1920's. One of the old barns that stood behind the tavern was also moved to Mullan's Resort in East Durham around the same time. While searching t

he name we discovered The Wayside Country Inn has been a way station for farmers taking their livestock to the docks in Coxsackie and was once a Carriage House and stagecoach stop. Now it's a great place to have the best pizza in town and a fine meal! The Wayside Country Inn has had a few different names. Although we do not know all of them, we do know a few-It was Carter's Hotel (1906), The Knotty Pine Tavern (1940's -1990) and now The Wayside Country Inn (1991 - present). As we know all too well, if only these walls could talk!
