Some nights the kitchen goes to the neighbors 🍕🍕

Chef Juli opened her ovens up in Aquinnah. We brought okra, corn, and tomatoes. Everybody else brought toppings from home. That’s the whole recipe: an island feeding itself in somebody’s backyard.

In Chef Ting’s own words: “I haven’t had a bad piece of pizza all night, but I’ve had way too many pieces.”

Thank you, Chef Juli. See you at the next oven.

IT’S TONIGHT! Let’s gooo 🍕🔥

Aquinnah, 5 to 8 PM, and our specialty pizza is a whole story on a slice: corn, fried okra, and tomato. The okra of Africa. The tomatoes of the US South. The corn of Indigenous people. Three histories, one fire, one very big stone oven.

And in honoring Chef Juli V. and her community philosophy, bring in some toppings of your own that you’d like to share!

Because we all show up hungry, and get to leave family. 🖤

They said we couldn’t. But we did 💪🏾💪🏿

Every w**e, every b**r, every spirit behind our bar is Black- and Brown-owned. Not some of it. All of it.

Because who we pour matters.
Behind every bottle is a maker, a story, a family, a vision. And just like the food on our tables, we want every glass to carry something bigger than what’s inside it.

They said we couldn’t. But we did.
Because this is Black Joy. 🖤

Before the plate, the island.

The food of the Black Diaspora at Black Joy Kitchen is made with what Martha’s Vineyard gives us, and this week we’re giving our flowers to the partners who make it possible.

Every plate we serve starts with their work. Thank you for feeding our kitchen so we can feed this island.

From this island, to your table 🖤🖤

For those of you who came in last night and had a gumbo you didn’t love… my deepest chef apologies. I lead the kitchen team, and anytime that something does not taste absolutely delicious, that is on me. It kept me up last night. I was in the kitchen this morning at zero dark thirty giving the gumbo its proper love. No matter how many things are going on simultaneously, we are committed to food excellence and delicious flavors. Come on by if this was you. We’ll give you some gumbo on the house.

Thank you for your grace.

What a night at Black Joy Kitchen 🙌🏿🙌🏾

It was an honor to welcome the great Chef Alexander Smalls, alongside the inspiring Meryanne Loum-Martin, hotelier and entrepreneur behind Jnane Tamsna in Marrakech.

Stories were shared. Books were signed. There was laughter, dancing, live violin, incredible food, and a room full of people enjoying it all together.

Good food. Good music. Good conversation. Good company.

More than anything, it was a night that felt like Black Joy.

To everyone who joined us and helped make it so special, thank you.

Come Hungry. Leave Family.

Another moment between Chef Ting and Alexander Smalls, and a glimpse of the kind of exchange we’ll experience tonight at Black Joy Kitchen.

Good food. Good conversation. A little reflection. And a whole lot of joy.
