Any guesses as to what will be our NEW menu item?? Depicted here, we'll give you one clue: its name has deep links with both Detroit/Oakland County AND Puerto Rico. If anyone gets the answer (& explains the links) before we post it tomorrow, we will give the first person to submit the correct answer a $50 store gift card.

Quick update on our espresso machine: it experienced a blown wiring harness following a power surge on Friday late afternoon (after techs gone for the day ofc); the tech diagnosed it 1st thing Monday & ordered a replacement, which arrived late today. We are hoping he can install it 1st thing tomorrow 🙏🤞

Can we make it up to you with some new menu items? Two savory, one sweet

1. Argentine Empanadas de Carne with chimichurri sauce. These are EXCELLENT & very filling.

2. Tequenos Venezolanos, basically tasty cheese sticks, served with salsa rosada (a ketchup/mayo sauce), these are a smaller item but also quite filling & are a quick pick-me-up.

3. Chocolate-filled croissants.

We picked up pork, & are going to slow-roast it for our signature Cubano sandwiches, & will be making fresh batches of quesito's!

Tenemos muchas delicias!! 😋

We are supporting Eagle Scout Daniel Hughes* & the Mulberry Acres Parrot Rescue near Brighton, by supplying our delicious, fresh, store-roasted, BIRD FRIENDLY coffee as a fundraiser to build brand-new outdoor aviaries for the shelter!

Daniel helped us roast & bag coffee today for his first event, the Bird Expo at the K of C Hall on Ryan Road in Warren. He's working to identify additional events/locations, including our coffeehouse. Stay tuned, maybe we can bring some of the parrots by!

* Daniel Hughes is an Eagle Scout who's the son of long-time family friends. They have tropical birds (like we do) & we've bird-sat for them a couple of times.

He is one merit badge away from collecting ALL of the badges (which we understand is a rare feat). His latest project is working with a newer parrot rescue near Brighton to build outdoor aviaries for the birds... GREAT project, so we put our heads together to figure out how we can help.

As we would say in Puerto Rico, es una Bendición y un honor asociarse con las escuelas, its a BLESSING & honor to partner with the Novi schools.

We are delighted to support this wonderful event. The teachers & other district staff who visit our coffeehouse bring such warm, happy & enthusiastic energy that day!

We remember an anecdote from this event in a prior year: a customer from out of town had read reviews about our awesome coffee, friendly service, & comfy vibe so stopped in. He saw all these cheerful & friendly people coming in, & asked what was happening? When we explained the event, he said that he was in town from Chicago to house-hunt, & that when he witnessed the beautiful spirit of our community, he intended to ask his real estate agent to limit his search to Novi!

We boast a lot about the fact that we own a coffee farm, & roast all of our coffee fresh in-store. This puts us above our competitors in terms of quality, freshness, & price.

We don't talk enough about the other half of our name: tea. Awhile ago, we decided to start blending our own teas, after forging a relationship with a reliable quality importer. We took this step after becoming increasingly dis-satisfied with the quality, freshness & price of available options from existing suppliers (notice a trend?)

So, today, rather than posting about another delivery of green coffee, we went to our importer & picked up another 20+ pounds of black & green tea for blending (& a couple of boxes of Earl Grey, the only tea we don't blend ourselves).

As we mentioned in the comments: challenge accepted! 😃 ☕️

Does your recipe call for "culinary coffee", like these Guinness-braised short ribs with homemade mashed potatoes that we enjoyed last night? If so, PLEASE don't tell us that you use stale* old grocery store coffee (or worse, one of those months-old pods)!

For this recipe, we used a small amount of our fresh Shamrock Blend that we roasted at the coffeehouse this weekend (pairs well with Guinness ☘️).

* very few coffee purveyors tell you roast date, precisely because its an agricultural product that's only truly fresh fir 2 or 3 weeks after roasting. Most store-bought coffee is assigned a "best by" date of a year (yuck!)

Feliz Dia de La Abolicion de la Esclavitud!

Today is Emancipation Day in Puerto Rico!

This quote translates to “I am not a descendant of slaves. I descended from human beings who were enslaved."

In my native Puerto Rico, we celebrate Dia de la Abolicion de Esclavitud on March 22nd, which marks the day in 1873 when our then-colonial masters in Spain decided to abolish slavery. Owners were monetarily compensated for the loss of value of their “property”, and slaves were required to continue working to 1876. My great-grandfather Simon, who rose to prominence as one of the greatest practitioners of “Bomba”, was 26 when he learned of his liberty in 1873.

“So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them” Genesis 1:27
