Athina Savvidis, age 67, passed away on September 22, 2021 after a short battle with health issues. She was born on March 16, 1954 in Mesopotamia, Kastoria, Greece and was the loving daughter of Panagiotis and Elisavet Simeonidis. Athina met and married the love of her life Anastasios Savvidis in 1972, and began their life together in Norwalk, CT. It was love at first sight and their endless love for one another continued for a half of a century.
Athina was a kindhearted, giving, and loving person who spent her life caring for her family and helping her friends. She was a true Orthodox woman that lived a Christian life. Athina was an active participant at Church. Her interests included celebrating with family and friends, dancing, cooking, and cleaning. She specialized in making Greek sarmadakia which was a traditional meal served at family gatherings. Athina loved traveling to Greece to take care of her mother and to spend quality time with her daughter and family. She always loved being in her home town in Greece and having coffee with her neighbors.
Athina, also known as “Tina,” was a hard-working woman, devoted wife, beloved mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend. She is survived by her three loving children; daughter Eva (husband Pantelis Xairistanidis); son Konstantinos (wife Gladys); son Panagiotis (wife Agapi); four grandchildren (Antigoni, Stergios, Chloe, and Athina); her brother Vasilis, her brother in laws Alexandros (wife Maria), Andreas (wife Maria), sister in law Parthena Moissiadis (husband Dimitrios) and countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Athina was an exceptional woman who had a beautiful soul with a golden heart and she will be missed dearly. She is predeceased by her beloved husband Anastasios, parents Panagiotis and Elisavet, and her twin brother George. The thought that she is with her husband again softens the pain. Tasos and Tina are probably dancing together in heaven, doing back-flips, and watching us from above.
Athina’s memory will be eternal and cherished. A memorial will begin at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, September 28th at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, located at 238 W Rocks Road, Norwalk, CT 06851, with the Services starting at 11 am. The burial will be at St John's Cemetery, located at 223 Richards Ave, Norwalk, CT 06850 followed by a Makaria at Silver Star Diner, 210 Connecticut Ave, Norwalk, CT 06854. Everyone is invited to attend.
