A brief history of Lou's Restaurant....73 Webster Street has housed many different businesses over the years, including a doctor's office, clothing store, auto & home supply store, office supply store, a campaign headquarters, a pizzeria and lastly, in 1972, Louise Heisner opened Lou's. Donna started working at Lou's as a dishwasher at the age of 14 and she continued through all of her school years, and even as she pursued her Business Degree at NCCC. In 1996, Donna and her sister Dee, who had attended BOCES for Culinary Arts, decided to buy Lou's from the Heisner family. In 1997, with the permission of the building owner, they took over 71 Webster Street. They completely remodeled that side to double the size of the restaurant. Donna, Dee and their employees worked hard to serve the best food, with great prices and a friendly atmosphere for the Tonawanda community. Their sister Dawn worked with them for a while too. Donna bought Dee's part of the restaurant in 2008 when Dee decided to open a restaurant of her own in Lockport, Dee's Sugar Shack. Business has been good through the years but now 73 (and 71) Webster Street will no longer be a Small Business. The Tonawandas will lose the Community that was Lou's Restaurant.
Edit..I am the mother of Donna and Dee and I wrote this post. It was not intended as a ‘poor me’ post. I am proud of my girls and the fact that at the ages of 23 and 24 they took the initiative to take out loans and get involved in a business of their own, a business that has a high failure rate and they succeeded in making it work. None of you know the whole story of how and why it is ending this way. My thanks to the many of you who appreciated the community my girls created over the years.
