AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT: Manda Kay

North Platte's own Manda Kay writes works of dark fiction and dark romance. She's a sucker for the misunderstood villain. Her taste in fiction ranges from the sound of flesh ripping away from bone to the pull in your chest when the unrequited feelings grind your heart into the gravel like a used cigarette. She thinks there is always beauty in the macabre if you're willing to do the work to find it. Her most recent series dives headfirst into the worst wedding anniversary ever, and the steps it takes to fix something three years broken. Sure, there's marriage counseling, but why do that when necromancy is cheaper? Manda will have the first three in the series with her, with the fourth and final installment on the way!

On Wednesdays we wear (and drink) pink!! This is a strawberry cream energized dirty soda! You know we use our favorite energy drink, BUM energy! This is so tasty and so pretty! 😍 some new deliveries today!! Our main man (our UPS delivery driver) came in clutch with another 10/6 new release Partita! We also have some new retail items including bookish claw clips, bookmarks, magnetic bookmarks, and a few fallish kindle sleeves!! I’ll be taking one of each! 😂

Shreya will be here Sunday!! She’s published a collection of books called Maya’s Adventures! We love these books in our home and so proud to have her in our store for our family day!

Meet Marilee!! She writes twentieth-century historical fiction set in the United States! She’ll be here Saturday and we are so excited!!! It’s going to be an amazing weekend full of book lovers! See you there!

AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT: Marilee Aufdenkamp

Marilee Aufdenkamp writes early twentieth‑century historical fiction set in the United States. Her debut novel, "Sparrow’s Song," released in September 2026. At its heart, Sparrow’s Song is an immigrant story about resilience, identity, and belonging, set against the two federal U.S. nursing educational programs of World War I and World War II. The novel explores the tension between ambition and family loyalty and cultural heritage. It offers an intimate look at the early twentieth‑century Germans‑from‑Russia immigrant experience in Nebraska. Marilee’s 26 years as undergraduate nursing faculty, combined with her long‑standing interest in the Nebraska Germans‑from‑Russia community, informed the research behind the novel.

Marilee will be appearing at the North Platte Public Library on Tuesday, Oct. 6, to discuss "Sparrow's Song" — AND on Saturday, Oct. 10, at Double Dimes Book Fair!

We’re so excited to have Claudia in our store this weekend! She started writing in 2019 and has a romance series based in North Platte! Come out this weekend to meet some amazing talent!!

AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT: Claudia J. Severin

Nebraska author Claudia J. Severin started writing romance in 2019, after spending the better part of the year researching genealogy. She published her first novel about her ancestors in 2020. The Twirler Quartet romance novels followed, which were set in Lincoln, Nebraska, in the 1960s through 1980s. Her latest series, Romancing Our Roots, combines genealogy, DNA forensics, romance and suspense. These books are set in Lincoln, North Platte, and Sioux Falls. Some of her tales are set in the present day, others in decades or centuries gone by. Love is timeless. Romance should be endless. You’re welcome to visit. It’s as easy as opening the book cover.

A heap of romance, a spoonful of suspense and spice, a dash of snark and laughter, over a base of history: that’s her favorite fiction formula.

Meet Julie!! She’s an award winning artist and poet and she’ll be in our store this upcoming Saturday!!! Can you believe we’re less than a week away from the Double Dimes Book Fair!? Come in and meet some amazing authors like Julie!!!

AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT: Julie S. Paschold

Julie S. Paschold is an award-winning poet and artist from Nebraska. She earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in agronomy from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. She has published three poetry books. "Horizons" honors soil and won a Nebraska Book Award in 2024. The chapbook "You Have Always Been Here" is an unconventional love story. "Human Nature" explores humanity’s connection to the earth. Both "Horizons" and "Human Nature" are available as audiobooks. Julie teaches at Omaha’s Lauritzen Gardens and is registered with the Humanities Nebraska Speakers Bureau.
