Today brought a big, positive change for our allergy kiddo — and for me, Mom.
Our team is scooping smiles at the shop while we celebrate a new chapter as a family.
With summer ending and school beginning, allergy families feel a lot at once. This author put those feelings into words perfectly, and it fit today just right.

They say you only get 18 summers.
I know that phrase is supposed to make us hold on tighter.
But for an allergy parent, it can land differently.
Because some of us already wonder if we're doing enough.
We already see the trips other families take.
The restaurants they walk into without calling first.
The spontaneous ice cream stops.
The sleepovers.
The camps.
And sometimes we wonder:
Are we doing enough?
So I want to say this to the allergy parent who needs to hear it.
If you stayed home, that summer counted.
If you rented the house with the kitchen and cooked every meal, that summer counted.
If you drove instead of flew because it felt safer, that summer counted.
If you packed the cooler.
Made the same safe sandwich.
Said no when everyone else said, “It'll probably be fine.”
Left the restaurant.
Skipped the trip entirely.
That summer counted, too.
Because your child isn't going to measure childhood by passport stamps. They're going to remember being loved.
They're going to remember the person who read every label.
Who asked the uncomfortable questions.
Who carried the medicine.
Who made sure there was something safe on the birthday table.
Who quietly carried the worry so they could just be a kid.
And maybe one summer, you'll feel ready to go farther.
Maybe you won't.
Neither one makes you a better allergy parent.
Because a big life isn't measured in miles.
Sometimes a big life happens halfway around the world.
And sometimes it happens in your own backyard, with a popsicle you know is safe and a kid laughing so hard they can barely breathe.
You don't ONLY get 18 chances to get this right.
There is no perfect number of trips.
No perfect childhood to create.
No finish line you're racing toward.
Just love them. Keep them safe. And when you can, let their world get a little bigger.
However big that world is today. ❤️
