65 years later the building is still standing and thriving as Big Al’s Subs & Big Al's Crab Shack. We are blessed to be a part of the Nixa Community. Thank you for all the support, let’s keep it going for another 65 years! TY Wayne Glenn for all your past knowledge. ❤️

Speaking of DAIRY QUEEN, this is the Nixa Dairy Queen in 1961, on North Main Street or Highway 160 when owned by the Ralph Siler family.

Inside Downtown Nixa: Big Al’s Subs/Crab Shack

Today we’re introducing Allan Willoughby, owner of Big Al’s Subs/Crab Shack in Downtown Nixa.

What started as Big Al’s Subs in 2015 has grown into a local favorite known for fresh, loaded subs, friendly service, and a welcoming atmosphere. In 2018, Allan purchased and remodeled the building at 420 N. Main Street, continuing to invest in the downtown community. After another remodel and expansion in 2024, Big Al’s now combines both the sub shop and Crab Shack under one roof.

From hot and cold sandwiches to baked potatoes, smoothies, breakfast favorites, and seafood nights at the Crab Shack, Big Al’s has become a go-to spot for many in Nixa and the surrounding 417 area.

This series is all about highlighting the people behind the businesses that help make Downtown Nixa special and Allan is one of those local faces helping serve the community every day.
