Merry Ending to a Joyous Season of Service
Dear Valued Customers & Friends:
Someone once said, “Change is the law of life.” Whisk & Barrel announces that we are moving all operations to our second location at the Hickory Furniture Mart, effective Friday, December 24th. We will be open for lunch on the 24th and will fulfill any last minute bakery orders for Christmas.
We have thoroughly enjoyed serving the citizens of Newton for the past three years, and it is with deep regret that we announce the closing of our Newton location. We are particularly grateful for the faithful support of numerous customers who have faithfully visited us throughout each and every week. It is your support that has enabled our success and our sense of accomplishment.
The reasons for our decision are numerous. Our building was recently sold to a local developer who has long-term plans for a project that will include residences on the second level. The scope of this economic development, which will involve several buildings, is important for the future of Newton. Unfortunately, there can be business disruption in the process of making significant changes.
Additionally, many key staff of Whisk & Barrel have experienced major life events that include the birth of children and grandchildren, the loss of a loved one, and offers of employment more in line with their education. And, of course, there have been the ongoing shortages of essential products that are difficult, if not impossible, to replace. If one could describe the “perfect storm,” it would probably look something like our present experience at Whisk & Barrel.
We understand that our absence will at least temporarily bring a loss to downtown Newton. But we hope that many of you will join us at The Grater Griddle Café on the second level at the Hickory Furniture Mart. We are open there Tuesday through Saturday from 11:00 to 3:00 and have plans to expand those hours. Any un-redeemed gift certificates from Whisk & Barrel can be used to purchase food at The Grater Griddle Café.
Our food truck, The Grater Griddle, will roll out in the spring with a revamped menu. In this way, we will do our best to savor time together again and serve our friends in Newton. This has been a sacred space for us, and we are grateful for the time we’ve spent with everyone here on the courthouse square.
