The North Shore House on Swartswood Lake in Stillwater Township, NJ has a very long and interesting history. The 5 story building was built right on the shores of Swartswood Lake in 1937. The Rivera Brothers operated the NSH as a hotel, as well as both downstairs bars and the restaurant. Patrons traveled far distances to stay and dine at the hotel. The Rivara's continued to operate until 1975, whe
n the building was purchased by a father and his two sons. Joseph Van der Haeghen, Steven and Norman respectively, continued to run the lakefront hotel until 1979. After 1979, the hotel section of the building was not used, though the restaurant and bar was used for live rock and roll music until Joe passed away in 2001. The gorgeous and scenic lake front property has since been used as a seasonal campground. In 2010, Steve and his family have been constantly making improvements to the building and grounds - and have also started holding weddings, parties, live music, and any other banquet service. Improvements have included a extremely large outside lakefront patio (outside wedding ceremony!) , a newly renovated commercial kitchen, and other exterior building projects. Ask any older generations of your family about us - they'll remember! Currently, North Shore House is open Thursday-Sunday for dinner at the Blue Heron Tavern. North Shore House also hosts weddings, private events, and more. We can host both intimate affairs and large celebrations with up to 200 guests, have several ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception locations to choose from, and offer you endless ways to customize your big day, so no two events are ever the same.
