Our hearts are with our neighbors at Pacific Seafood as emergency crews respond to a devastating fire on the Newport Bayfront today.

We want to reassure our community that Local Ocean Seafoods is safe and all of our staff have evacuated safely. Some members of our team have also been forced to evacuate their homes.

Pacific Seafood is an integral part of Newport’s working waterfront, supporting our local fishing fleet, providing jobs, and contributing so much to our coastal economy. Our thoughts are with their employees, families, and everyone impacted by today’s events.

We’re incredibly grateful to the firefighters and first responders working to protect our community.

Local Ocean is currently closed as part of our previously scheduled kitchen renovation, and we look forward to reopening on November 3.

We just recently had a beautiful delivery of fresh Oregon rockfish from F/V Challenge, right here in Newport! One of the things we love most about being located on Newport's working waterfront is our ability to source directly from the fishermen who catch it. 🐟

Oregon rockfish is prized for its mild, slightly sweet flavor and firm, flaky texture. It's incredibly versatile, making it a favorite in our restaurant for everything from classic fish & chips to tacos, ceviche, and seafood soups like the Fishwives Stew or Moqueca De Peixe.

Oregon rockfish comes from a sustainably managed fishery, with science-based catch limits and fishing regulations designed to protect fish populations and marine ecosystems. 🎣

On special: Sea Urchin Toast. 🌊 Served right in the half shell with buttery brioche toast and dulse (seaweed!) butter, this is one for the uni-obsessed, or anyone curious -and brave- enough to try one of Oregon’s most unique local delicacies.

Both red and purple sea urchin are harvested by hand by local divers right here off the Oregon Coast. Fresh uni has an incredibly soft, creamy, almost custard like texture with a delicate sweetness and ocean brininess.

This plate is a little DIY: grab your spoon, gently scoop that creamy uni straight from the shell, and pile it onto warm brioche slathered with dulse butter.

Have you ever tried abalone? On special at Local Ocean (for a few more days): Red Abalone Ceviche, made with Monterey Bay red abalone, pico de gallo, lime and cilantro. Abalone has a delicate ocean flavor and a firm, pleasantly chewy texture.

And this abalone has a great story! 👏 It comes from Monterey Abalone Company, California’s only in-ocean abalone farm. The abalone are sustainably raised in cages suspended beneath Monterey’s Commercial Wharf, where the movement of the bay creates an environment that closely mimics their natural habitat.

They’re fed fresh giant kelp, hand harvested from local kelp beds, and take about four years to reach market size.

Come try this unique West Coast seafood while it’s on our specials menu for the next couple days. 🌊 We’ll be closed Sunday, October 25 through Monday, November 2nd, reopening Tuesday, November 3rd. Our favorite midweek tradition has returned for the season! Every Wednesday, all day long, nearly all bottles of w**e are half price at Local Ocean.

Looking for a recommendation? Our server Joaquin is a big fan of the 2023 Domaine Drouhin Oregon Pinot Noir, a beautiful Willamette Valley w**e from one of Oregon's most celebrated w**eries. 🍇

Joaquin says this versatile Pinot Noir pairs with just about everything on our menu, but his personal favorite is pairing it with our Steak Frites. 🍷🥩
