It is with very heavy hearts that we share the passing of our dear friend and longtime member of the Newport Playhouse family, Jim Killavey.

Jim graced our stage in so many productions over the years, bringing laughter, warmth, and wonderful characters to life. He was a talented actor, a true professional, and, most importantly, a cherished friend to so many of us.

The Killavey family has a very special place in the history of the Newport Playhouse. Jim’s wife, Cindy, and their sons, Kevin and Brian, all performed on our stage, giving us the rare privilege of having an entire family share their talents—and so many memories—with us.

When you spend years rehearsing together, performing together, laughing backstage, and sharing countless nights in the theater, you become much more than fellow actors. You become family. Jim was family.

Our hearts are with Cindy, Kevin, Brian, and everyone who loved Jim. We are grateful for every performance, every laugh, and every memory he gave us.

The curtain may have come down, but the memories and laughter Jim left behind will remain with us always.

Rest peacefully, Jim.
You will be deeply missed by your Newport Playhouse family. ❤️

NOW PLAYING AT THE NEWPORT PLAYHOUSE — I NEED THAT

The curtain is going up on another production in our final season.

Join us September 9–27 for I Need That, a funny, touching and wonderfully human play written by Theresa Rebeck.

Directed by Marla Ladd
Starring Dr. Geoff Leatham, Tamar Hale & Jomo Peter

At the center of the story is Sam, a man surrounded by the things he simply can’t let go of. But when the outside world begins pushing its way back into his life, he must decide what he truly needs—and what he may finally be ready to leave behind.

It’s a story about possessions, relationships, second chances and the things we hold onto, told with plenty of humor and heart.

And this year, every production at the Newport Playhouse means just a little bit more.

After 43 incredible years, our final curtain will fall December 31, 2026. But we’re not finished yet.

Come spend another afternoon or evening with us. Enjoy a great meal, a wonderful play and the Newport Playhouse experience that has brought generations of audiences together. Get your tickets now
