Did you know that the Dungeness Crab holds the prestigious title of being the Official Crustacean of Oregon? Back in 2009, the Oregon State Legislature bestowed this honor upon the beloved crab, and it was all thanks to the persuasive efforts of the students at Sunset Primary School in West Linn, Oregon.
December kicked off the commercial crabbing season and the initial two months mark the peak period for crab catches. That means that right now is the best time of the year to get your hands on some freshly caught Oregon Dungeness Crab. Plus, by patronizing local fish markets, you not only treat yourself to the finest of the catch but also contribute to Oregon’s sustainable fishing industry, from boat to shop. It's a win-win situation!
