People ask me what the most important thing is when it comes to running my businesses. My answer is always my employees.

Because when my employees are happy and feel valued, they take care of our customers. When our customers feel taken care of, they come back. It’s really that simple.

I don’t spend my time trying to build connections with rich or powerful people. Most of them don’t know me or my businesses.

I build connections with my front-line people — the people who are there every day, serving customers and doing the actual work. They’re the ones who tell me what’s working and what isn’t. They’ll tell me when I’m wrong, and they know me well enough to be honest with me.

I take care of them, and they take care of me and our businesses.

We learn from each other. We take care of each other. And hopefully, we grow together.

That’s the kind of business I want to build.
