Dear Friends of The Mountain Boomer Smokehouse,

Sadly, we will not be reopening our doors in the coming year. Our business has been struggling to survive in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. Unfortunately, with the loss of the fall leaf season and the continued closure of the Blue Ridge Parkway, we cannot survive.

We thank you for your support and friendship over the past two years, and wish you a happy, peace-filled 2025.

Yesterday marked a significant milestone in our journey toward crafting our very own ciders. We pressed our first bushels of apples! While it was just a practice run, the experience was nothing short of momentous. This pressing was made even more special by the use of the Mountain Boomer Apple, a local variety grown right here in Avery County. Special thanks to Dr. Doug Hundley (aka Dr Scrumpy) and Herbie Johnson for providing the apples.

The Mountain Boomer Apple has become a symbol of hope and resilience for us, especially in the wake of Hurricane Helene’s devastation. Not only did it yield the sweetest, most delicious juice imaginable, but it also represents the strength and spirit of our community.

As we continue to recover from the storm, we are reminded of the beauty and promise that surrounds us. Much like the Mountain Boomer Apple, we believe there are many sweet things to come from this community in the future. Here’s to the next chapter and the incredible possibilities ahead!
