Just wanted to share with you our favorite annual Cow Happiness Campaign.
As I was walking through Gita Nagari Farm forest today, full of Oaks, Hickory, Black Walnuts and Maple trees, the rustle of the fallen tree leaves reminded me that winter is just around the corner. Our herd of 90 cows had and are still having wonderful time outdoors, the grass is still green in the pastures, and the last warm autumn days give them peace as less flies bother them.
Once snow hits the ground, the herds will be moved to permanent cow shelters and it is so essential to keep them happy indoors and apart from tasty premium quality hay, which we grew, harvested, baled and packed ourselves - around 1000 bales that is Gita Nagari Farm home grown chemical free premium hay and it will certainly last us for the whole winter and spring seasons & will keep cows bellies full, such a relief! 🙂
The other part of keeping cows happy in the barn, especially when temperature drops significantly, is to give them dry, fragrant, soft (to the cows touch) straw, which retains the cows heat and evaporates moisture and serves as a wonderful natural insulator and comfy bedding for our beloved cows. I wholeheartedly would like to invite you all to join our Comfy-A-Cow campaign yet again this year to keep our cows warm and healthy through the winter (December-March).
Our target this year is $25,000 to keep the whole herd comfy. It is $5,000 more than last year because I realized that we use quite a bit of straw in summer too (in the outdoor cow sheds when it intensely rains or is super windy, cows prefer to stay in those sheds themselves, and it also needs straw, although not as much as in winter). So this target is pretty much for the whole year of 2024.
