Setsugekka by Tea-Whisk

Setsugekka by Tea-Whisk Japanese Tea Ceremony The purpose of Tea-Whisk is to introduce the beauty of Japanese Tea Ceremony in NY. I would love to share a bowl of tea with you in NYC.

At first, you may feel that you do not know exactly what tea ceremony is because it includes various fields of art, such as calligraphy, flowers, incense, ceramics, lacquer ware, iron work, wood work, architecture, gardening, kimono, Japanese kaiseki meals and so on. In the course of time, you will discover new things and grow day by day. It is like a process of creating a sculpture, you will cut down the excessive part and find out the heart of tea ceremony. Something invisible and precious, sensing further spiritual growth of yourself through Japanese Tea Ceremony.

Tea Tasting Party
at Globus Chash*tsu, KeiSui-an
Sunday, September 27
1st Session 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm
2nd Session 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm

There is another side of Japanese green tea waiting to be discovered.

For this special tasting, we invite you to experience Sencha, Genmaicha, and Hojicha as cold brews—prepared slowly with cold water to reveal the tea leaf’s natural sweetness, umami, and delicate aromas.

With less bitterness and astringency than hot brewing, cold brewing brings out a remarkably gentle and refreshing character in each tea.

Each tea will be paired with a specially created sweet by our patisserie chef, Chihiro Taira, thoughtfully made to complement the character of each brew.

Join us for a quiet and refreshing exploration of Japanese tea at the beautiful KeiSui-an, Globus Chash*tsu, by Setsugekka.

Come taste the tea leaf in a new way—and discover the sweetness and umami hidden within.

With special thanks to Mr. Stephen Globus for his generous hospitality. 🍵

with Ceramic Artist Judy Weddle

Slow down. Touch the clay. Shape something with your own hands.

No two bowls will be alike—and that is the beauty of making something by hand.

While your bowl takes shape, enjoy a tasting of two special Sencha teas and discover a quiet connection between clay, craft, and tea.

All materials, glazing, and kiln firing included.

Places I Call Home
A Photography Exhibition by Eno Inyangete
At Setsugekka
September 18–20
During our regular opening hours

We are delighted to welcome Eno Inyangete’s photography exhibition, Places I Call Home, to Setsugekka.

Through her lens, Eno captures the people, places, and quiet moments that gradually become familiar—and, in time, become meaningful enough to hold onto.

In her own words:
“A collection of people, places and small moments that have become familiar enough for me to notice and important enough for me to want to keep.”

We invite you to slow down, enjoy a bowl of matcha, and spend a little time with Eno’s story—her collection of moments, memories, and places she calls home.

Please join us at our matcha home, Setsugekka.
We look forward to welcoming you. 🍵📷💚

Ten years ago, I was introduced to Mr. Ishikawa-san, a tea farmer from Toyota, Aichi. We have been serving since Setsugekka first opened! We are so grateful that last Saturday on his first visit to the US, he served his matcha for our guests in a traditional tea ceremony style. Thank you so much Mr. Ishikawa-san and his family! We look forward to serving your tea for a long time!

A Rare Opportunity to Witness
Gyō-no-Gyō Daisu (行之行台子)
by Souheki Mori

Sunday, July 26
1:00 PM & 3:00 PM
Globus Chash*tsu, New York

Setsugekka Matcha is honored to present a rare demonstration of Gyō-no-Gyō Daisu (行之行台子), one of the most advanced and refined temae (procedures) in Japanese tea ceremony.

Originating in the Muromachi period, this elegant temae has traditionally been preserved as an advanced transmission in many schools of tea and is rarely demonstrated publicly. Tea master Souheki Mori will share this special experience to celebrate and preserve the depth and beauty of chanoyu.

Following the ceremony, guests will enjoy a seasonal Watermelon Iced Matcha and a casual Q&A session with the tea master.

Attendance is limited to ensure an intimate experience; advance reservations are kindly requested.

With special thanks to Mr. Stephen Globus for his generous hospitality.
