Had an empowering day at City Hall last Thursday fighting for the end of at-will employment with !

We held a rally and then met with City Councilmembers and flyered to bring attention to how important passing the Secure Jobs Act is for restaurant workers. This is a little of what we said:

1. We can't afford to live two weeks without a job! If you want to fire us, at least give us two weeks notice so we can find another source of income.
2. We are often fired unjustly for speaking up about sexual harassment or making reasonable requests for schedule adjustments.
3. We are scared to talk about organizing at the workplace due to the threat of firing.
4. We are humans, not objects or machines, and deserve the basic dignity of an opportunity to improve and a conversation.
5. We are no longer willing to let the anxiety of suddenly losing our jobs control our lives!

If you want to join this fight, send us a dm!

Thank you and everyone else who came out to win this basic human right!

Come join ROC-NY and the Secure Jobs Coalition next Thursday at City Hall to demand that the City Council pass this vital legislation, which would end at-will employment in NYC!

This bill is essential for giving workers more financial stability and insulating them from labor violations such as retaliation.

If you have any questions, please send us a dm or reach out anyway you know how. Share with all your friends, comrades, and family!

Thanks to the advocacy of and all of you, the New York State Assembly and Senate have passed three bills that will help us achieve universal childcare!

1. Decoupling: Ends practice of tying child care assistance to the
hours a parent works, creating more stability for children and increasing access for parents who work part-time or inconsistently.
2. Presumptive Eligibility: Allows families in need of child care assistance to access it immediately, rather than having to wait weeks (or even months) for paperwork to be processed.
3. Eliminating Minimum Earning Requirements: Ends New York’s deeply unfair practice of denying child care assistance to parents whose earnings are less than minimum wage

sign these bills ASAP so we can get parents, childcare providers, and children the relief they desperately need!

Immigrant restaurant workers! Here's an opportunity to make an easy $60 and contribute to a valuable study!

To participate, you need to speak English, work in the restaurant industry, and be an immigrant.

If this is you, call the number in the flyer. Feel free to send us a dm first if you have any questions.

Of U.S workers who have been fired, 69% report that they weren't provided with a reason and 72% report that they had no warning or chance to improve first. In NYC, 90% said they were given no warning.

People are being fired without notice, and 43% of workers (and the majority of women, Black, and Latinx workers) are two paychecks away from not being able to pay their bills.

For this reason, ROC-NY went down to City Hall yesterday to demand that the City Council end at-will employment in NYC and pass now!

This bill has officially been reintroduced and we need your support! If you want to join this campaign, please send us a dm, text, email, or just stop by our office.

Thank you to all of our coalition partners, which include and Teamsters

Also shoutout to all of the elected officials who came out to support and are fighting hard every day to end unjust firings: Tiffany Caban Brad Lander

Service charges have become a hot-button issue across the country, and the only people that seem to be happy about it are restaurant owners.

Customers don’t want to pay arbitrary fees. Front-of-house workers question whether the mandatory service charges eat into their tips. Back-of-house workers wonder how the charges can be tracked on their paychecks, or if they’re getting them at all.

And we know how widespread wage theft is in the industry...but that's only the stuff we can reliably track.

So, we created a survey so we can understand how service charges affect service workers! Go to bit.ly/ROCservicecharge to tell us all about it!
