🥪 Ever wonder how pastrami became a deli legend?

Its roots trace back to Eastern European Jewish food traditions, where meat was preserved and seasoned for flavor. When Jewish immigrants brought those traditions to America in the late 1800s, the preparation evolved. Beef became a popular choice, and brining, spice rubs, smoking, and steaming helped create the tender, flavorful pastrami we know today.

At Sarge’s, we believe some history is best enjoyed between two slices of rye. ❤️

How did the tuna melt become a deli classic?

Tuna salad sandwiches were already popular in America decades ago. Add toasted bread and melted cheese, and somewhere along the way, the tuna melt was born.

Recipes for hot tuna and cheese sandwiches have shown up in cookbooks as far back as the 1930s, and by the 70s, the tuna melt had found its place on menus across the country!

And honestly, it’s easy to see why.
