Today we remember the lives we lost on September 11, 2001, and especially the nine fallen heroes of our community - the Yorkville 9. Earlier this summer I had the privilege of bringing my family to visit their firehouse, Engine 22/Ladder 13 on 85th street. We were taken aback by this beautiful memorial of the Yorkville 9 honoring these men who lost their lives and made the ultimate sacrifice that day responding to their duty. We stepped away from the daily bustle of our lives and took a beat as we remembered the chaos and devastation of this day 25 years ago. Spending time with the firefighters and watching them don their gear and be called off to duty several times during our visit was a reminder of the bravery and dedication of those firefighters that day.

Tonight as we host our local firefighters for dinner, we say a heartfelt and sincere thank you to them, the Yorkville 9, and to all of the men and women who lost their lives protecting ours.

We will never forget.
