🌞☕️🎈🌊10 YEARS SINCE WE OPENED OUR DOORS IN THE WEST VILLAGE🌞☕️🎈🌊
I love so many things about this business. Merriweather has truly lived up to my vision of bringing the sunny, beachy, hospitable Aussie vibes to what once seemed like a forgotten corner of the West Village. Today and all days that our store is packed, loud, and the tickets are flying in, feels like a celebration for our friends and community.
Some of our regulars today were here on that first day back in July 2016. We’ve been through it all together; marriages (some who met at Merriweather) and divorces, kids growing up and loved ones passing away, movie scripts and books written, COVID dark days operating outside for one and a half years, and of course hundreds of dates, reunions, big job interviews and new friends made. We have loved being part of all of it.
The reason we are so busy and have so many regulars is our team of kind, smart, cheeky and supremely skilled baristas and cooks who are the life and soul of this cafe.
At the helm of that team are Steves—my head chef who has been with me since before we opened and together we have been through it all— and our general manager Bethany—who leads the ship with competence, kindness and professionalism. Serving thousands of people each week would not be possible without their brilliant problem solving, support and dedication. Of course, the true heroes are our amazing team of baristas and cooks who provide the highest quality coffee, breakfast and lunch program in the West Village, day in and day out, year after year, most of whom have been with us for more than 5 years. I am just so thankful for each of you.
I can only hope the next 10 years will be half as amazing as the first.
Somehow we ended up on the best block in the best city in the world.
With endless gratitude,
Peter
