"These last few months have been a roller coaster! Figuring out how to pivot, explore other revenue streams, help those around you, and grow community, in a seemingly isolated environment, has been a challenge. However, we've been able to hold on to our core mission to help guide us through this time. The word 'lakou' ultimately symbolizes community in Haitian Creole. As a cafe, it is what we are about at our core --- from curated events to just creating space for folks who need it most. Even through COVID-19, we have been able to continue that spirit of community. We've been able to provide over 1000 free meals to individuals in Brooklyn, as well as refreshments to protesters who are speaking out against injustices. I'm excited that folks are now working to balance the scales of justice and this has even extended to commerce.
