For sixty-eight years, customers have crowded into Veselka, a cozy Ukrainian coffee shop in New York City's East Village, to enjoy pierogi, borscht, goulash, and many other unpretentious favorites. Veselka (rainbow in Ukrainian) has grown up from a simple newsstand serving soup and sandwiches into a twenty-four hour gathering place without ever leaving its original location on the corner of East Ninth Street and Second Avenue.

On January 14, Veselka had the privilege of participating in “What’s Cooking: A Community Food Club,” hosted by the 14th Street Y as part of its Downtown Together Clubs initiative. We were honored to present traditional Ukrainian dishes, including our Borscht, pierogi, and Ukrainian Honey cake, and to share a taste of our culinary heritage with the community. Taking part in this meaningful program allowed us to give back to our neighbors while fostering cultural connection through food.
