Rabbi Moshe and Ruth Harizy –
Founders of “Oneg Shabbat” Moshe andRuth Harizy have dedicated their lives to bringing Jews closer to each other. Cherishing Ahavat Israel.” For over 20 years, Moshe, Ruth and their 4 children have hosted guests in their Upper West Side Manhattan home every Shabbat. The meals draw between 20-30 singles and couples. The Harizy dream has beento create a place where Jews can experience the joys of Shabbat no matter where they are. In 1993 that dream became areality with the launching of Oneg-Shabbat.org. In 1882 Moshe's family moved from Yemen to Israel - bringing with them many Yemenite traditions. Moshe, born in Tel Aviv, served as a communications officer in the Israeli Army during the Lebanon war. He then headed Keren Kai’emet for 4 years (a non-profit organization which gave 60,000 children the opportunity to plant trees in the mountains of Israel). In 1996 Moshe founded "The Yemenite Minyan" in New York City. For years he taught a class titled 'The Mystical Torah" at Aish NY on Wednesdays. In 2009 the classes were moved to the Oneg Shabbat Center. Classes are frequently simulcasted on the internet (“torahanytime.com” or “ustream.tv”). Thursday nights he hosts - All Night Learning - where a group of dedicated men and women delve into the Parsha with mystical insights from 1:30 am to 6 am. Many of New York's Baal Teshuva community seek Moshe's spiritual guidance. He is the owner of Alibaba Restaurant (Amsterdam Avenue at 85th Street, in Manhattan) which serves delicious, affordable, kosher cuisine. Ruth wasborn in Israel and served in the Israeli Army. She and Moshe met at a Purim celebration. Ruth is a registered nurse working in the intensive care unit for pre-mature babies. Ruth loves to cook her own special recipes which have become favorites at her table. All the food she prepares is healthy and filled with love. In her free time, Ruth matches singles in the community. Many girls seek her advice on relationships.

Shawarma and veggies‬

‪Flawless flatbread, donuts make this subway stop a dining hotspot‬
‪Most of the city’s truly great neighborhood restaurants feed something deeper than hunger, and such is the case with Ali Baba, the Yemeni-Israeli kitchen run by Moshe Harizy.‬

‪His food — falafel, shawarma, chicken soup and salads — is satisfying to the soul, rich with vegetables pickled, stewed, fresh, or grilled. You combine all of the above, with as many cured jalapeños as you can handle, in your choice of pita, a platter or the house-baked flatbread called laffa. The latter is seasoned, like much of the food at Ali Baba, with the super-healthy Yemeni spice called fenugreek. (Harizy is a former vegetarian and macrobiotic, so the high nutritional value of your meal is 100% on purpose.)‬

‪Harizy himself really sets the tone, by making sure even newcomers feel like regulars. Giving back is part of his mission: for the past three decades he’s fed not just customers but dozens of new friends, opening up his home for strangers for a free Friday night Shabbat dinner nearly every week.‬

‪Just be sure to check to see if Ali Baba is open before you go. Harizy tends to set his own hours, noting when he’s serving food on Twitter under the handle .‬
