LAW ENFORCEMENT LIAISON
As a result of the high value attached to Islam and Muslims as commodities of terrorism/terrorists and as a result of the number of excesses committed by law enforcement agencies after 9/11 C.E., many US Muslims have perceived law enforcement as biased against Muslims. We were successful in securing relief and improved treatment for many Muslims caught up in High-Profile cases. By way of improved communication and cooperative--and at times contentious--interaction, we established a network of contacts in the law enforcement community (federal, state, city, and local). Our law enforcement network has been in the vanguard of transforming the manner in which Muslims are viewed and approached. As examples, NYC FBI Assistant Director In Charge Mark Mershon has a number of agents including Supervisory Special Agents Emilio Blasse and Mark Rossini who are liaisons to the Muslim community; ICE sends high echelon agents including NY’s Peter Smith to speak at masjids and Muslim organizations, and NYC Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly has emplaced the first Muslim Liaison Officer Detective Ahmed Nasser. This developing cooperative interactive law enforcement liaison network is the outcome of much of our intervention. The next stage of our law enforcement liaison program is the configuration of Muslim Leaders, Law Enforcement, and Attorneys to address the ongoing concerns, issues, and litigation involving the Muslim Community.
