Another beautiful Tertulia last night at Mena - Thank you to everyone who came out for a night of sharing knowledge, passion and curiosity. Just as Chef’s aunt Filomena passed on her love of cooking to her around the kitchen - the Tertulias turns our space into a place for community and sharing and passing on knowledge. It was so good to shine the spotlight on our very own Dr.J along with Alice Jun of and Raphael Lyon of and , who talked about all things fermentation and flavor, and shared their mutual passion for exploration and experimentation. And along the way, touch on essential things like, time, culture, biology, taste, pleasure….Great to watch everyone sipping on Mead, Flower Wines, Chichas and Sool, and sharing that pleasure together!

Join us for the second in our series of tertulias at Mena!

We all love beer and wine, but fermentation goes way beyond barley and grapes. Here in New York, craft producers are making their mark with artisanal, thoughtful renditions of traditional fermentations of fruit and grains (as Chilean chicha), rice wines (as Korean Makgeolli and other forms of sool) and honey (as mead, dandelion wine, and bochet).

Join Chef Victoria in conversation with Mena’s own “Dr. J”- Arielle Johnson- and friends Alice Jun from Hana Makgeolli, and Raphael Lyon of Enlightenment Wines Meadery to discuss the craft, science, and spirit of flavor in traditional, untraditional, and tradition-inspired drinks and their interplay with cuisine.
