Standing proudly outside Killmeyer’s Old Bavaria Inn is a beloved symbol of German heritage, childhood innocence, and the spirit of adventure — The Merry Wanderer!

📜 THE STORY OF THE MERRY WANDERER

Born from the beloved artwork of German artist Sister Maria Innocentia Hummel (1909–1946), The Merry Wanderer captures the timeless spirit of a young traveler setting out to discover the world.

With his umbrella resting over his shoulder, a traveling bag in hand, and a song upon his lips, this cheerful little wanderer represents the simple joys of childhood, the excitement of adventure, and the endless possibilities of the journey ahead.

Sister Hummel’s charming illustrations of children inspired the world-famous M.I. Hummel figurines, first produced in Germany in 1935. Her artwork became treasured around the world for its warmth, innocence, and celebration of everyday life.

The Merry Wanderer remains one of the most recognizable figures associated with the Hummel tradition — a reminder that life’s greatest adventures often begin with a single step.
