Last night Al Badawi in Brooklyn Heights was broken into. The glass was shattered with a rock around 2:16 a.m. on the first day of October.
This isn’t about race. The individual wasn’t Black, but the truth is hunger doesn’t know color. Survival doesn’t ask what background you come from.
People steal because society has failed them. When jobs are scarce, when opportunities are out of reach, when you’re hungry and desperate, you do what it takes to get by. It’s not about evil, it’s about survival.
We need to do better; first as a government, and second as people. We need to show kindness, compassion, and empathy. To feel for one another and to step in when someone is in pain.
So, to the man who broke in last night: I forgive you. I can only imagine the level of desperation you were in. If you are reading this, know that a job is waiting for you. You don’t need to say your name or show your face. Just fill out a contact form on ananigroup.com and I promise, I will take care of you.
Because at the end of the day, we rise when we lift each other. Stay safe out there and dont mess up another person's day, you didnt mess up mine you just brought me back to my awareness to check on my neigbors before going to sleep and to make sure the ones around me are good.
With love and forgiveness,elenani
