The other day, we were honored to host the Daughters of the War of 1812 for lunch.

These remarkable women are descendants of the men who fought and, in many cases, gave their lives in service to our country during the War of 1812. Through their dedication, they work to preserve the memory of those patriots and keep their legacy of service and love of country alive for future generations. We love history at the Tavern!

“From Grain to Glass”

Join us July 2nd as we celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States with a guided rye whiskey cocktail class led by Tavern mixologist Augustine Dunn.

Some people ask, “Why have a restaurant so far from the city?”

Cities certainly have much to offer, but there are moments of quiet and connection that you simply cannot find there.

Moments that reconnect you not only with nature, but with echoes of a way of life that still reverberates through small towns across America.

Here in little New Wilmington, in the heart of Amish Country, those echoes ring loud and clear. Horse-drawn buggies still pass by our windows, the pace is a little slower, and a timeless way of life remains alive and well.

It is a place where history, community, and the land come together, and where a meal can feel like an escape from the noise of everyday life.

Congratulations to Allison and Sandy on raising a record-breaking $198,771 for !

What an incredible accomplishment.

It is truly inspiring to see how generous people can be when they rally around a meaningful cause. Allison and Sandy have taken a heartbreaking diagnosis and transformed it into a powerful story of hope, resilience, and compassion.

Their journey is a remarkable example of the strength of the human spirit and the extraordinary impact that can be made when a community comes together to support others.

We are honored to have played a small part in helping them reach this amazing milestone.Y

Title: “Hillside in Spring” Artist: Thomas McNickle One of our favorite traditions here at the Tavern on the Square is the changing of the painting in our foyer. It signifies the changing of the season, but more importantly, it nods to the wealth of talent and creativity in our community, the showcasing of which was and still is a core tenant of the Tavern’s mission.

These incredible pieces that we are privileged to display are by local artist Thomas McNickle. Mr. McNickle is a local icon and a nationally celebrated artist. He is a member of the American and National Watercolor Societies, and his work has been exhibited in more than fifty museum and gallery exhibitions, including a mid-career retrospective at the Butler Institute of American Art.

His work can be found in numerous permanent collections, including the Butler Institute of American Art, the Hoyt Institute of Fine Art, the Vero Beach Museum of Art, Kansas State University, and the Mint Museum, among others. For the full story of how we came to be so fortunate as to display his works visit this link ! https://thetavernonthesquare.com/blogs/news/a-fine-art-field-note
